A Jammy Year in Review

Hi everyone! I wanted to thank you all for following and give you a bit of a recap of what I’ve been up to this year.

If you’d like more detail, consider joining me on Patreon!

Supporters at every level have received a 54-page recap that contains all of my art from the year, and some additional commentary. You can download it the moment you join at any level. The Recap pdf is also be available in the Patreon shop🛍️. All previous years are pay what you want on ko-fi⬅️!

This is a fun way I like to collect a whole year of work – both to thank my supporters and to give anyone else a very quick way to get up to speed with what I’ve been working on.

Did you know I’m part of a comic-book-club podcast? It’s called the Tradewaiters⬅️ and I was part of 16 new episodes this year! We have over 120 episodes now for you to peruse, we read a super diverse range of genres so there’s something for everyone.

A photo of jam's hand holding a postcard in front of a blooming cherry tree. The postcard has a black catte-person dancing in a Sakura-themed outfit.

This year I continued with the Postcards from a Better Future, where I send out a hopeful little postcard with a cute illustration every month.

Every postcard highlights a different aspect of Solarpunk, which is the genre I’m working on for my next comic Skuttleboat Cove. I did more work towards that project this year, but it was mainly focused on research and skill-building. I took two different professional-level art courses and shared my progress along the way 🙂

A collage of images, in the top left is a photo of a valley, the other images are studies of that valley in various stages of completion (black and white, simple colours, gouache and final digital painting)

I also did a conference talk⬅️ on Solarpunk Speculative technology, wrote a comic about How to Be a Solarpunk⬅️, made a few new zines and new cute things, and I’m really excited to plow all of this experience back into the comic.

Speaking of comics, I also did a lot of new autobio this year (and put that together as a new zine🔒 on Patreon, too).

panel 1: "Deep Seek Monday" (The "Deep Seek Whale" is watching a stock ticker descend and crash through the bottom border of the panel. It says "yo")

panel 2: In the background there's the lyrics of The Impressions that I get by Mighty Mighty Bosstones: "Ne-verr had to knock on wood! But I know someone who has..."

jam is squatting in a rack (60kg). Their trainer (I) is supervising them.
I: "... and 4!"

panel 3: jam is resting on the barbell.
jam: "ahh. Tech stocks crashin', ska on the radio..."

panel 4: jam collapses on the barbell, as the ska music continues: "That's the impression that I get! doot dooo dooo dooo..."
jam: "The 90s are Truly Back again..."
I: "..?"

On top of the regular Hourly Comics Day⬅️, Patrons get a whole bonus exclusive Hourly Comics Day, and this year I wrote about the 5k walk (and livestream)🔒 I did to fundraise for VOKRA. That wallpaper is the header image, and it’s available for all for download on my Patreon.

A comic featuring catte-jam, this one is a page from their bonus hourlies describing how while they were waiting on the beach, the city was giving everyone parking tickets.

I ended the year with a surprise!zine about my trip to New Zealand in 2023🔒. It’s available now but I will be launching it “properly” soon.

Patrons get access to a ton of extra commentary and behind-the-scenes about this and everything else I’m doing. They see everything first and I also write a monthly round-up to make sure that everything I’m doing around the internet is in one convenient place.

I’m really grateful for this space and to all of you following, and that’s why I put a lot of effort into it. But one area I want to get better at is making sure the art I create gets to the public in an efficient and organized way. That will be my focus for this upcoming year 🌠

Thank you so much for following!!
